Zeldzame en miskende russula's in Vlaanderen (3)
Walleyn R. & Le Jeune G
Some interesting Russula species are described from collections from Flanders, northern Belgium, and their ecology and distribution is discussed.
Russula paludosa Britzelm. is rare species associated with Pinus sylvestris on damp nutrient poor sandy soils. In the study area it is concentrated in the Kempen district. R. solaris Ferdinandsen & Winge is rather rare and grows with adult Fagus sylvatica trees (including red-leaved variants) in parks and lanes, especially on sandy loam and loam. Russula persicina Krombh. is an uncommon species, especially growing on moderately rich soil types, typically associated with Populus spp. (mostly P. × canadensis, also P. canescens, ?P. tremula), less commonly with Quercus robur, or Salix repens in coastal dunes. Caps of collections growing with Salicaceae very often become very pale or white when old (“var. intactior”). Russula rubrocarminea has been found only once, in a forest lane with Quercus on a poor sandy soil.
Russula paludosa is a strongly declining species in the area. The status of Russula solaris is less clear, but it is probably declining as well. Russula persicina has been overlooked in the past or misidentified as R. maculata. Russula rubrocarminea might have been overlooked as well.
